The term “Mold Remediation” is commonly misused. Many unknowing contractors tout it to be nothing more than spraying an antimicrobial solution onto a surface followed by a wipe down. Some even skip any type of physical removal or wipe down altogether.

What is Mold Remediation?

Mold Remediation is the process of controlling and reducing both air and surface borne mold spores to a level that is equivalent to or less than the natural exterior environment.

Even those following “standard” IICRC S-520 procedures of containment, negative air scrubbing, HEPA vacuuming, cleaning, a second HEPA vacuuming (HEPA > Cleaning > HEPA is called the “HEPA Sandwich”) don’t necessarily achieve results that are both efficient and predictable.

OnGuard Pros employ a cleaning system and neutralization that is second to none in regard to both mold stain removal and soil load removal (cleaning mold from the surface).

Once dry HEPA vacuuming is used to remove loose mold growth and spores that could easily cross-contaminate during the cleaning process, OxyPrep is used to mitigate staining. And while some would consider stain removal OxyPrep’s primary job, it’s greatest benefit is in the neutralization reaction that occurs when Oxypar LR is applied immediately following OxyPrep’s use.
The neutralization process not only eliminates chemical odors but it also forces the soil load (mold, dirt, algae, etc) to the surface of the foam that was formed in the neutralization procedure.
Efficiency is enhanced through the use of the double pump, double barrel, double trigger BTM Sprayer which was engineered with both speed and efficacy in mind.

Within minutes, technicians can begin extracting the wet foam from the surface which, while assisting the speed of remediation, is used primarily for the purpose of removing all of the contamination from the surface. Think of it this way, when wiping/scrubbing is used to remove the mold, at least in part, it is also pressed back into the surface (called “redeposition”). In contrast, wet extraction physically removes the entire soil load avoiding redeposition altogether. This is the only sensible way to guarantee predictable results.
